At the "Eire Budgerigar Society's" AGM, and special SGM held on the 26th of
January 2009, in the Carrickdale Hotel, Ravensdale, Dundalk, Co Louth, the
following decision was taken by the paid up member present.
The Management Committee through the Chairperson Mr John Hall
Proposed to change the name of the "Eire Budgerigar Society" to The
Budgerigar Society of Ireland, and that the aim of this change would be to
make the society one, that all Budgerigar fanciers on the island could feel
part of.
The proposal was put to the floor and but for one objection, the proposal was
passed by a majority of 92.86%.
This change of name and the courageous forward thinking of the committee
was met with a well deserved round of applause,and a fresh start was given
to the Eire B.S. under its new name. However as reported on the "Home Page" this change of name had a detrimental effect, and only succeeded in splitting the hobby in the Republic of Ireland. Therefore the management committee and the membership, present at the 2010 A.G.M took the honest decision and reversed this name change , and so the "Eire Budgerigar Society" is again alive and well!
